Ofcom has today announced measures to hold Openreach to account as the network division legally separates from BT. This separation follows recommendations outlined in ‘Broadbad’, a BIG report published in January 2016.
These measures are intended to ensure an improvement in the quality of telecoms customer service and to examine whether Openreach customers are receiving adequate broadband speeds.
Grant Shapps MP, Chair of the British Infrastructure Group of MPs, said, “These measures outlined by Ofcom are welcomed, but the regulator must continue to scrutinise progress of the separation between BT and Openreach. Millions of broadband customers across the UK continue to receive poor speeds, and Ofcom must work to ensure that the new Openreach provides quality customer service.”
