House of Lords publishes report on UK’s energy networks

Today, the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee published its report on the UK electricity and energy network.

Called The Price of Power: Reforming the Electricity Market, the Lords include many original pieces of data and witness statements from experts across industry, commerce and the third sector in order to assess the UK’s network.

BIG welcomes this robust intervention into the electricity capacity debate, which is broadly supportive of our own findings and agrees with our conclusion that the overarching aim of energy policy must be to keep the lights on.

BIG ventured into the discussion with the research document Electric Shock last December, pointing out the dangers of very narrow capacity margins and over-reliance on emergency power programmes.
