BIG welcomes Swansea Bay Lagoon as a step forward for renewable energy innovation

The British Infrastructure Group of MPs welcomes a government-backed independent review of tidal power which found the Swansea Bay Lagoon to be a cost-effective source of reliable and renewable energy.

The report found that a government subsidy for building the Swansea Bay Lagoon would cost householders approximately 30p on their energy bills annually over the first 30 years of the project. Grant Shapps MP, Chair of the cross-party group, said, ‘This is a very positive step towards harnessing our tidal power to diversify the UK’s energy supply, and BIG will certainly be interested in examining the cost-effectiveness of future lagoon projects across the country.’
